Theme: “Reverence”

Friday, March 1 – Sunday, March 10, 2024.

Creative Cortland is an exhibition that continues to evolve, a platform for artistic and imaginative expression and appreciation. This year’s exhibition will explore the concepts of reverence.

Gallery Opening: Gallery opening Friday, March 1 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Exhibiting artists receive free entry. Additional tickets for the gallery opening can be purchased at the box office or the door for $15 per ticket.

Exhibition Viewing: The Creative Cortland – Community Visual Arts Exhibition is open for viewing from March 2 – March 10; Sat/Sun from Noon – 5:00 PM, and M-F 9:00AM – 4:00PM with a suggested donation of $10.00.

Featured artists will be creating art LIVE through various mediums exploring the idea of reverence. This year, we are introducing LIVE music! There are two times to visit with and watch the featured artists and musicians while they develop their artworks and musical musings.

NEW! CREATIVITY CORNER

Fun for the whole family. Come leave your mark on a collaborative canvas at the Creativity Corner! All materials, and smocks, will be provided. The Creativity Corner is open to all and will be available for the duration of the exhibition.


ARTWORK SUBMISSION DETAILS

Eligibility: Entries will be open to residents of Cortland County –  professionals, amateurs, and high school seniors –  and students and faculty from Tompkins Cortland CC and SUNY Cortland. Applications can be completed online by clicking here. Forms can also be downloaded by clicking here.

Entry Application & Fee: All presentation-ready 2D and 3D works are welcome for submission. Artists may submit up to 4 pieces for consideration, with a non-refundable entry fee of $10 for students, and $20 for all others. Applications and entry fees must be received by CRT no later than February 9, 2024. Payment may be made via credit card using the entry form, mailed to CRT, PO Box 783, Cortland, NY 13045, or by calling (607) 756-2627. CRT Downtown is open Monday – Friday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Artwork Submission: Once the entry form is complete and delivered, images of the artwork must be submitted via email to ArtGallery@CortlandRep.org for review. Please include the artist’s name, medium, title of work, and size that corresponds with the information submitted in the entry form. Artists will be notified via email of what work has been selected for the exhibition. Once notified, only selected work will be accepted into the gallery.

Artwork Preparation: 

  • 2-D works: All mediums are welcome. All must be properly framed and wired for hanging; glass is not required. Work should have gallery-wrapped canvas or clean/finished edge.
  • 3-D works: Work must not require assembly and must sit solidly on a surface (floor or pedestal).
  • All artwork must have an attached label with the artist’s name, the title of the work, medium, size, and price (if for sale). Labels are included in this document below. 
  • An email with a notification of acceptance and the next steps will be forthcoming once all artwork is submitted after the deadline and reviewed for consideration.
  • All accepted pieces must be dropped off at CRT Downtown, 24 Port Watson Street, between 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM  Monday, February 20 –  Friday, February 23.

Sales: Artists may make pieces available for sale. CRT will collect a 10% commission on all pieces sold during the exhibition with sales handled by the CRT box office.

Insurance: Exhibiting artists are not required to insure their work and consent to exhibit work at their own risk. CRT is not liable for any lost or damaged artwork, personal effects, and/or equipment.

Retrieval of Artwork: Following the closing of the exhibition, all pieces MUST be picked up Mon-Wed, March 11 – 13 between the hours of 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  A $1.00 per day charge will be in place for every day after March 8  that the pieces are not collected. Artwork left for more than 30 days will become the property of CRT.
